Inner Wheel was formed in 1924 in Manchester
with the aim of
fostering friendship amongst the wives of Rotarians.
It
was also felt that such an organisation would more effectively support
the
work of Rotary in the local community.
The first President was Mrs Margarette
Golding and she is now recognised
as the founder of the Inner Wheel Movement.
By
1934 there were 79 Clubs grouped into Districts.
In that
same year the Districts were united into the
Association of Great Britain and
Ireland.
By 1967 Inner Wheel had spread to many parts of the world
and
International Inner Wheel was formed.
