Our Missionary Link with Peru
Paul and Sarah Tester
For three years now we have been supporting Paul and Sarah, our link missionaries in Lima, Peru. Originally with the South American Mission Society and now with CMS, the Church Mission Society, they serve in the Diocese of Peru working on various projects there.
Sarah works with children and takes “The Ark” play scheme to some of the poorest areas of Lima. In the poorer areas of Lima children don’t have many opportunities to play and be children.
Sarah brings toys and games to missions in these areas and, after a time of play and a break for refreshments, leads them in bible teaching, craft activities, songs and prayers. She also helps lead Sunday school at her church and helps at the Compassion International project there.
Paul supports the diocesan youth ministry in its vision to see more young Peruvians come to know Christ, to follow Him and be inspired to serve Him in mission. He supports youth leaders and helps to grow new youth ministries in more recently planted missions.
Paul is often involved in training events, visits to encourage youth leaders, youth camps and helps lead youth groups in different missions and parishes. As a civil engineer, he is also often called on to help support building projects in the diocese.
Paul was our Guest at Hardwicke on Saturday July 17th and Sunday July 18th, we held a social evening at Church House, Hardwicke on the Saturday evening during which Paul shared with us the latest news from their work in Lima.
On the Sunday morning at our 11.00am Eucharist, Paul was our Guest Preacher, again giving us insights into the challenges and joys of mission in Peru today.
His sermon was based on three challenges; to be wholehearted in our life as followers of Jesus, to value the people He values, and to recognise that it is God who gives the increase as we work for Him.
Paul and Sarah are now sponsored by CMS which is committed to sharing the Gospel across many continents, read more of their work by clicking on their logo below.

Our Video Clip this month gives some idea of one of the shanty town areas near Lima, a great contrast with the city of culture a few miles away.
Video Slot - St Patrick's Breastplate - Angelina
We used this as the soundtrack for our Celtic Spirituality evening as part of our latest series of
studies using the "Education for Discipleship" course notes for the module "Going Deeper".
The evening went well with opportunities for quiet contemplation with personal and liturgical prayer.
